FAQs

Why is the Center of Hope necessary at this time?
There are over 1000 homeless citizens in Wake County and 9.1% of our population is below the poverty line, regularly seeking help for food, clothing and expenses. Although The Salvation Army serves over 10% of the county’s population, we are turning away hundreds of families because the need is greater than our current capacity to help.

How much money is needed to make the Center of Hope a reality?
The Wake County Capital Campaign goal is to raise $12 million for this project.

How will the $12 million be used?
$1.5 million — Property Purchase
$4 million — Renovations to the Property
$4 million — Operating and Services Endowments
$500,000 — Expenses and Attrition

Why did you choose this economically challenging time to raise funds for The Center of Hope?
Our calling is to help hurting people, and as their numbers continue to increase in Wake County, we knew we had to proceed. We believe that with a sound plan, committed Advisory volunteers, caring and generous Wake County citizens, and of course the Lord's blessing, we will be successful.

I always donate to the Christmas Kettle. Will this help build The Center of Hope?
Friends like you who donate throughout the year and at the Holidays are very special, and your gifts provide essential funding for our programs and services. We continue to need those vital gifts, and we are asking the generous residents of Wake County to make an additional, specific contribution to The Center of Hope Campaign.

Where will the Center of Hope be located?
The existing structure shell, and future Center of Hope, is located at 1863 Capital Boulevard – approximately 2.5 miles from our current location.

How long will the Capital Campaign last?
The Campaign is scheduled to last 18 months, concluding in October 2010.

What will happen to the current location on Person Street?
We will sell the Person Street property upon our transition to the new building.

What will happen to the citizens being served from the current location?
We committed to serving the people in need and are exploring ways to continue our soup line downtown, as well as at our new location on Capital Boulevard. We will do all we can to continue our service to those in need within the downtown area.

I live outside the Raleigh area – how does The Salvation Army help those in the other areas of Wake County?
The Salvation Army serves all the citizens of Wake County by helping them directly and coordinating countywide services from partner organizations.

Are there naming opportunities?
Yes, we have a comprehensive list of wonderful recognition opportunities for generous donations.
